Say it Ain’t So!

April 21, 2009

Real Clear Politics is thinking that Tom Coburn might retire: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/politics_nation/2009/04/coburn_retiring.html

I hope this is not true.  While this author believes firmly that there are no political messiahs and that no man is indispensable, Coburn is one of the few people on the Hill today (Democrat or Republican) who serves an important role.  He is the only credible and consistent opponent of crazed spending, and for that, he plays a critical role.

Here is hoping that he sticks it out for another term.

President Obama Stands up for his Country

April 19, 2009

“[Hugo Chavez] presented the US leader with a book – a tome chronicling 500 years of European and American exploitation of Latin America.

Obama refused to interpret the gift as baiting, quipping later: “It was a nice gesture to give me a book, I’m a reader.”

That determination to bury old antagonisms was also present when Obama responded disarmingly to an hour-long opening speech by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, in which the former leftist revolutionary reviewed US action against Cuba including the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. “I’m grateful President Ortega did not blame me for things that happened when I was three months old,” he told chuckling leaders.”

Thank you, Mr. President, for standing up for the reputations of our nation and people  against those mass murderering thugs.  I sleep much better at night knowing that you areout there burnishing our national reputation and standing up to tyrants and oppressors.

Obama’s Supporters: Police Shooting = Zany Fun

North Korean Missle Launch

April 5, 2009

I guess that the Obama administration’s new approach to diplomacy has failed to deter North Korea from launching a rocket over the territory of our ally, Japan. Despite President Obama’s personal warning to the totalitarian rulers of the Korean Worker’s Party, and despite Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s personal “shout out” on cable news, Kim Jong Il’s regime continues to behave in the same manner than it did during the Bush and Clinton administrations. It seems that the North Koreans found Obama’s threat as something less than credible. Obama promised that his election and foreign policy would result in greater respect and cooperation throughout the world. So far, when it comes to North Korea, the evidence indicates that this promise is not fulfilled.

One of the key tenants of the Obama campaign was that he would make us safer through his deep knowledge of foreign policy. His flaccid response to North Korea’s provocation is not encouraging. As a result, I don’t see how one could argue that the United States is safer from North Korea today than we were before Obama initiated his “new approach.”

Back (in black)

April 1, 2009

Greetings all!

The Rough and Ready Blog is back online!

While I had hoped  that the new administration would prove to be the moderate and pragmatic crew that their followers assured me they were, that has not proven to be the case.  So, we are now back in business.

Greetings all.

I am currently going on hiatus for a while, as I have to prepare for the Spring term.  Hopefully, my two or three subscribers will be there when I get back!  Thanks for your patronage, and I look forward to reengaging in the conversation in the near future.  God bless!

Blog Analysis

November 22, 2008

Apperantly, the readability level of this blog is undergraduate:

<a href=”http://www.criticsrant.com/bb/reading_level.aspx”><img style=”border: none;” src=”http://www.criticsrant.com/bb/readinglevel/img/undergrad.jpg” alt=”blog readability test” /></a><p><small><a href=”http://www.criticsrant.com”>TV Reviews</a></small></p>

This puts this blog at a higher reading level than Talk Left,  in the same league as “Wake Up America,” and well below the reading level of Maggie’s Notebook.

BarackObama.com, on the other hand, is written at an elementary school level.  Try it yourself: http://www.criticsrant.com/bb/reading_level.aspx  I guess this explains how that site can claim that raising taxes on 5% of people and lowering taxes on 95% will raise more money- the power of make believe.

There seems to be a lesson here.  Until one reaches the age of voting, one should read TalkLeft and BarackObama.com.  Then, as their mind matures and critical thinking skills improve, check here and Wake up America.  If one is truly gifted, then they should move up to Maggie’s Notebook.

Thanks to Maggie’s, Wake Up America, and Talk Left for posting links to this site!

Additional thought

Why is it that when the Big Zero says something stupid (no short list, that), he never apologizes publicly?  It’s always some press release or surrogate that goes out to be accountable.
